“Friends & fam, hope to be evac’ed soon.. we are fine & calm. #Orlandoshooting #Orlando”

A few minutes later, he wrote on his profile that he and other employees were “locked in and safe.”

The Afghan minister of counter narcotics says foreign troops are earning money from drug production in Afghanistan.

article_opium_soldierGeneral Khodaidad Khodaidad said the majority of drugs are stockpiled in two provinces controlled by troops from the US, the UK, and Canada, IRNA reported on Saturday.

He went on to say that NATO forces are taxing the production of opium in the regions under their control.

Afghanistan is the world’s biggest supplier of opium.

Drug production in the Central Asian country has increased dramatically since the US-led invasion eight years ago.

A recent report by the United Nations states that Afghan opium is having a devastating impact on the world, killing thousands in consumer countries.

Meanwhile, The New York Times reported on Wednesday that Ahmad Wali Karzai, a brother of the Afghan president, is involved in the opium trade, meets with Taliban leaders, and is also a CIA operative.

The opium trade is the major source of Taliban financing....

Soviet Soldier Recounts What They Believed About Their Mission

A soldier with the Russian army in Afghanistan recounts what they believed about their mission

By Glenn Greenwald

I’m traveling still today, but I wanted to note an amazing Op-Ed that was referenced in a book I’m reading:  the Op-Ed is by Nikolai Lanine, published in The Toronto Globe and Mail in November, 2006.  Lanine was drafted into the Russian Army at the age of 18 and spent several years as part of the Russian occupying force in Afghanistan.  Thereafter, he moved to Canada, and in 2006, his wife’s first cousin, a medic in the Canadian Army, was killed in Afghanistan.  Lanine wrote this column after attending his funeral, and recounted what he and his comrades in the Russian Army believed they were doing in Afghanistan:

I identified with the Canadian soldiers at the funeral mourning the loss of their friend. Like them, I went to Afghanistan believing in “fighting terrorism” and “liberating Afghans.” During my first mission, we were protecting refugees escaping an area that was under attack by the mujahedeen. I was deeply affected by their misery, and by the poverty and suffering of the Afghan people in general....

Wednesday October 28,2009 By David Pilditch A son hailed a hero for tackling two teenage burglars, stabbing one of them to death, was charged with murder yesterday. Omari Roberts, 23, was widely praised after tackling Tyler Juett, 17, and a 14-year-old accomplice when he caught them breaking into his mother’s home.  He chased the 14-year-old off, then returned to the house to find Juett still there. They scuffled and Juett suffered a six-inch stab wound that severed vital arteries. Juett was rushed to hospital but later died from his injuries. Read the entire article here - Editor's Note: This is absolutely sickening to read. Further into the article, the authorities state that they based their 'murder charge' on the gratuitous nature of the stabbing - h

British Couple Hijacked by Somali Pirates; Held Hostage

By MOHAMED OLAD HASSAN and JILL LAWLESS (AP) MOGADISHU, Somalia — Paul and Rachel Chandler, a retired British couple who sailed to exotic locales aboard their 38-foot yacht, said in one of their last cheery messages they would likely be "out of touch for some time." After disappearing for a week, a somber Paul Chandler is back in contact, saying by telephone Thursday that he and his wife are being held captive by gun-toting pirates who stripped their vessel of everything of value. Despite the presence of warships and aircraft from more than a half-dozen nations, the pirates prowl the Indian Ocean off Somalia seemingly at will, pouncing on pleasure craft, fishing vessels and huge cargo ships. With the recent end of monsoon season in East Africa, there has been a rash of attack

What’s Behind the False Flag Flu Emergency?

 By Bill Sardi for

On Friday I stood before an audience in Phoenix, Arizona and attempted to shock them with something similar to a repeat of Orson Welles’ War Of The Worlds radio broadcast, a 1938 Halloween night radio announcement that said, in a series of news bulletins, Martians had landed on the earth. The public cowered in fear then, even when Welles announced it was just a radio drama, not reality.

The contrived crisis I created was the President of the United States had just announced a national emergency because of a massive number of deaths attributed to a fast-spreading strain of flu virus that had combined with a mortal form of flu virus. My hand was shaking as I read the announcement. People in the audience thought it was real. The audience began to squirm and wonder, before I finished my melodrama, just how they were going to return home without having to undergo forced vaccination at the airport.

They were relieved when I told them this crisis was purely fictional....

President Declares National Emergency… But why?

President Obama declares national emergency over swine flu pandemic, but why?

Source: NaturalNews – Mike Adams

According to the CDC, swine flu infections have already peaked, and the pandemic is on its way out. Peak infection time was the middle of October, where one in five U.S. children experienced the flu, says the CDC. Out of nearly 14,000 suspected flu cases tested during the week ending on October 10, 2009, 99.6% of those were influenza A, and the vast majority of those were confirmed as H1N1 swine flu infections.

Your rights as an American are no longer recognized under this national emergency declaration.
Even though the H1N1 pandemic appears to have peaked out, U.S. President Barack Obama has now declared a national emergency over swine flu infections. The reasoning behind such a declaration? According to the White House, it’s designed to “allow hospitals to better handle the surge in patients” by allowing them to bypass certain federal laws.

Emergency powers trump the Bill of Rights

That’s the public explanation for this, but the real agenda behind this declaration may be far more sinister....

Obama declares swine flu a national emergency

By Patricia Zengerle

article_obamaWASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Barack Obama has declared 2009 H1N1 swine flu a national emergency, the White House said on Saturday.

The declaration will make it easier for U.S. medical facilities to handle a surge in flu patients by allowing the waiver of some requirements of Medicare, Medicaid and other federal health insurance programs as needed, the White House said in a statement.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said on Friday that swine flu has become widespread in 46 of the 50 U.S. states, a level comparable to the peak of ordinary flu seasons but far earlier and with more waves of infection expected.

Obama signed the statement on Friday night.

The White House statement said the declaration was intended to prepare the country in case of “a rapid increase in illness that may overburden health care resources.” It was similar to disaster declarations issued before hurricanes hit coastal areas.

“It’s important to note that this is a proactive measure — not a response to a new development,” an administration official said....

The Fed’s Latest, Greatest Round of Asset Inflation

by Mike Larson   10-23-09

There goes oil, surging past $80-a-barrel. That’s up 150 percent from the December low, in case you’re keeping score.

Gasoline? Wholesale prices are up more than 40 cents a gallon in just under a month …

Heating oil? Grab an extra blanket! It just jumped to the highest price in almost a year …

Corn? It’s up almost a buck a bushel since mid-September …

Wheat? Rising. Soybeans? Yep. Sugar? Near a 26-year high. And I hope you’re not planning on eating too much chocolate this Halloween. Replacing it will cost a lot more considering cocoa futures just soared to the highest level in almost three decades.

If you’re a resource-sector investor, this is all great news!

But for everyone else, it just means higher prices at the pump … a dramatic escalation in heating bills … pricier bread … more expensive cereal … and so on.

And you know what? Federal Reserve policymakers probably couldn’t be happier! They want prices to surge. In fact, they are deliberately pursuing reckless monetary policies and a strategy of dollar debasement in order to ENSURE we get yet another round of asset inflation!...

Source: Associated Press via VALHALLA, N.Y. — Former New York Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik is now just another number in the county jail. Westchester County jail spokesman Justin Pruyne (PRYN') says Kerik was given the number 210717 and a single-bed cell when he arrived Tuesday afternoon. Kerik is awaiting a federal trial on corruption charges. He had his $500,000 bail revoked for disclosing secret pretrial information. Pruyne says the 54-year-old Kerik was processed like any other incoming inmate but was segregated from the general jail population because of his background in law enforcement. Kerik won glowing reviews for his leadership after the Sept. 11 attacks. He was later nominated to lead the federal Homeland Security agency but withdrew as co

Wed Oct 21, 2009 6:33pm BST By Alister Bull OKLAHOMA CITY (Reuters) - A $29 billion trail from the Federal Reserve's bailout of Wall Street investment bank Bear Stearns ends in a partially deserted shopping center on a bleak spot on the south side of Oklahoma City. The Fed now owns the Crossroads Mall, a sprawling shopping complex at the junction of Interstate highways 244 and 35, complete with an oil well pumping crude in the parking lot -- except the Fed does not own the mineral rights. The Fed finds itself in the unusual situation of being an Oklahoma City landlord after it lent JPMorgan Chase $29 billion to buy Bear Stearns last year. That money was secured by a portfolio of Bear assets. Crossroads Mall is the only bricks and mortar acquired through bailou
