Monsanto’s Bt Corn on the Cob to Be Sold at Wal-Mart With No Indication It’s Genetically Modified

Most of the genetically-modified (GM) corn products forced on American consumers today are hidden in processed foods in the form of high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS), corn oil, corn starch, and various other corn-based additives.
But soon to be available at a Walmart near you is Monsanto’s Bt sweet corn, the agri-giant’s first ever GM corn product made available to consumers as whole ears right on the cob in the produce section– and like with all other GMOs, neither Walmart nor Monsanto has any intention of labeling this new “Frankencorn.”
Hayden’s Note:
I urge you to research the dangers of genetically modified foods. I have written countless articles on the topic. With that being said, this move will further obfuscate and confuse consumers regarding the severity of GMOs. For those few people out there who buy corn from the produce section in order to avoid BPA exposure from cans, or perhaps believe that the corn is better for you as a raw, unprocessed “produce item,” you’re in for a world of cancer and they won’t even give you a courtesy warning. Sad.

Just stop eating corn, corn byproducts, and anything with corn syrup. Stay away from white bread and cheap beer.
I could go on and on, but the bottom line is this: if it is artificial, or you do not know from where it came, don’t eat it. There are lot’s of alternatives out there.
You have great information on this site. Thanks for that.
The food world is totally frustrating me right now. Any corn and soy products that aren’t organic (and maybe some that are?) should be considered GMO. There’s corn and/or soy in an incredible amount of food! Yikes!
Then you try buying organic produce and a lot of it is from Mexico. Has anyone else noticed that the majority of produce in grocery stores here in OK are from other countries? That ticks me off.
I guess it comes down to eating locally and seasonally. Whew, I have a ways to go on that!
This is tough, but getting more important every day. Who would have imagined that we’d be dealing with such food contamination?
I know… it’s such a sad state of affairs when it comes to our food.
I’m in Texas on a work assignment and stuck in a relatively small town. I went to the only grocery store in town, expecting to pay astronomical prices for decent, organic food, but that’s the cost of being in TinyVille. As I wandered each aisle, I couldn’t find ANYthing that was labeled organic. Nothing. I figured I just wasn’t looking hard enough, so I literally spent about 15 minutes looking for the word Organic on ANY product. Every aisle.
Not a single wholesome item. None with the USDA Organic logo.
I write a LOT about GMOs, the corn industry, HFCS, organics, et al, but this really hit me like a ton of bricks.
I stood in the middle of an aisle for a few moments, reeling at my realization of just HOW BAD it is. These poor people in this town have likely not even heard of organics! LoL. I hate to laugh, but it’s probably true! The “breakfast” aisle was nothing but colorful, sugary cereal. I thought for sure they’d have SOME protein bars or something half-way decent… but instead, I found (I shit you not) 1/3 of the entire aisle filled with Kellogg’s Pop-Tarts. I’ll take a picture tomorrow and post it. There must have been 5 or 6 shelves, and about 25 feet in length, of pop-tarts. THIS is the grocery store’s “breakfast bar” section.
And this sort of stocking and product selection could be found on every aisle for every category. I was appalled. And saddened. I left the store with some lettuce, “natural” dressing (not toooo many corn products in it, and at least not made with HFCS), and a bag of carrots. And I’m not a vegetarian!!! This was the only thing I could force myself to willingly digest and that was after washing it several times when I got back to the office.
Sad, pathetic grocery store.
And you’re in Oklahoma, too? Man, what’s up with all my Okie readers?? Coming to the Prep Expo in March?

Ugh, that’s so sad. Who ever started thinking Pop tarts were food anyway?
Just heard about the expo via your site. Sounds totally interesting, but not sure if I’ll make it yet.
Well, I definitely encourage you to come by. Should be a really great crowd that spans the spectrum… good for networking and learning!
Cheers,
