Homesteading with a Shipping Container, Part 9: Installing the Simple Pump

Water is one of the most strategic preps that one can have should the grid go down or we find ourselves caught in the middle of a disaster. All other preparedness plans fail without it, and even if you stock bottled water or have spare filters, if it is a prolonged emergency, eventually you will run out.

That’s where a water pump comes into play. For those with land or a retreat, even a water well in your backyard, if you are relying on electric or motorized pumps to fill your needs, have you developed an alternative energy plan? Do you have a back-up plan when those solar panels get damaged or your batteries are dead?

I believe in having a back-up for my back-ups, and when assessing my water situation at my off-grid, shipping container homestead – the Elysian Fields Project, I decided to cut out the middle man and install a manual water pump as my primary plan.

Should we encounter a prolonged grid-down event, or EMP, this pump will continue delivering water as long as I can pump the handle!...

Hayden’s Note: Military Helicopters Terrorize Houston, “Warzone” – The New Normal

The sight of Army helicopters and the sound of gunfire created a lot of concern Monday afternoon in one Houston neighborhood.

With military helicopters flying above her southeast Houston neighborhood, Frances Jerrals didn’t know what to think.

“…it sounds like we’re in a war zone. Guns, shooting, helicopters flying around the house,'” Isaac Robertson Jr. said.

The U.S. Army, along with other agencies, took over the old Carnegie Vanguard High School near Scott and Airport. There were armed men in fatigues, plenty of weapons and what many thought were real live rounds.

“I felt like I was in a warzone.” Jerrals said. “It was nonstop. I was terrified.”

“If it’s to protect our kids, I’m all for it,” neighbor Glenn DeWitt said.

Hayden’s Note:

THIS is the problem. Fear mongering, complacency, and a sheeple mentality: handing over all critical thinking skills and effort to the government will come with a heavy price. Mr. Glenn DeWitt believes that the US military is training to protect our school children.

Worried about draconian Internet laws? Creeping surveillance? The Internet is still a tool of tremendous power, but a deep rot has set in. We have caught it early and we are fighting to stop this rot, but there are other options we can begin exploring to hedge our bets and enhance our current efforts.

piratebox2Image: The PirateBox in use on a handheld device. Once the PirateBox is up and running, either on a standalone device like the one pictured to the right (background), or on your laptop as described here, it will appear as another WiFi network for people in range to connect to. Once connected, files can be freely shared, and there is even a chat client users can communicate with. It is just as useful as a file server for a small business, as it is for circumventing the draconian criminalization of Internet file sharing.

What If? Hayden’s Coffee Thoughts on Russia, Obama, and Guns Thumbnail

What If? Hayden’s Coffee Thoughts on Russia, Obama, and Guns

Posted on Jan 23, 2013 in Blog, Editorials, & Thoughts

Kevin Hayden –

I’ve been doing some thinking; some exercises in mental creativity, if you will, about the current craze surrounding gun confiscation and assault rifles and I want you to join in on this little walk down Crazy Road with me.

What if…

What if President Obama or members of the Federal Government have information to suggest that Russia or China are aligning themselves to engage in a full-blown World War 3?

What if a handful of our elected leaders knew that something catastrophic was coming down the pipeline and are unable to declare it publicly due to the inevitable, ensuing chaos and panic that it would create?

What if those Powers That Be were using reverse psychology, screaming “gun ban! gun confiscation!”, in an effort to get Americans to buy even more firearms and specifically, those illustrious, evil “assault weapons”?

What if …?

What if these globalist, money-hungry, power grabbers are actually trying to get us to arm ourselves in a fashion that no economic stimulus ever could?

What if the reason they have purchased a historical 1.6 billion+ rounds of jacketed hollow point .40 caliber rounds is to arm our domestic law enforcement against this coming catastrophe or invasion?...

Former SEAL: Dear Mr. Security Agent

Posted on Jan 23, 2013 in Blog, Editorials, & Thoughts, Constitutional & Liberty Issues, Police, Military, & War

Kevin Hayden –

Excerpt from Matt Bracken’s Open Letter to Law Enforcement with Hayden’s Note at the end;

The unintended consequences of this misguided utopian fool’s crusade to ban guns would include a second civil war as agonizingly painful as the first one, if not more so, since there would be no front lines and no safe areas for anybody, anywhere. Every sane American wants to prevent such a calamitous outcome as a “dirty civil war” on United States soil.

But know this: those tens of millions will never be quietly disarmed and then later forced at government gunpoint onto history’s next boxcars. If boxcars and detention camps are to be in America’s future, then you, Mr. Security Agent, will have to disarm them the hard way first. Not Piers Morgan, not Dianne Feinstein, not Chuck Schumer.

And so, if you find yourself silently dismounting a covert SWAT vehicle at zero-dark-thirty, dressed in body armor, counting down to the explosion of battering rams and flash-bang grenades, on a raid against a sleeping household intended to result in the confiscation of firearms, ammunition, or magazines that were legal to own in 2012, millions of Americans who also swore an oath to defend the Constitution will consider you their domestic enemy, and they will resist you with force of arms....

Ray Nagin, former New Orleans mayor and the public face of the battered city in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, has been indicted by a grand jury on 21 federal corruption charges.

Hayden’s Note:

Let’s just file this under, “….duh!”  There are a slew of New Orleans government officials and police officers who should face a grand jury inquiry.  It was only a matter of time until Mayor Ray Nagin was caught.  But, for those of you who don’t live in New Orleans, or don’t understand the depth of the corruption and depravity down there, this is par for the course.  This comes as no surprise to anyone who understands how NOLA operates, which is saddening, because there is no other place quite like it.  New Orleans is an amazing, magical place in so many ways, but the mindset, and the “way we do things” down there distorts it into a large-scale ghetto, full of the worst that mankind can offer one another.  I will always consider it my former home, but there truly is no way to turn it into the place it should and could be.

Guns, Obama, and Executive Orders: Are We Being Distracted?

Posted on Jan 16, 2013 in Blog, Editorials, & Thoughts, Constitutional & Liberty Issues, Health, Food News, & Big Pharma, Political Issues

Kevin Hayden –

As you comb through the various executive orders and memorandums that Obama signed into action today, I would like you to take note of the bland nature of this “tough crackdown” on gun violence. I think it goes without saying that anyone, on either side of this “debate”, agree that criminals and those with serious-ill intent should not be in possession of a weapon or item that can cause mass casualties. That’s a no-brainer, and re-iterating it merely pays lip-service to the dumbed-down masses.  Items such as nominating an ATF Director, sponsoring a responsible gun ownership campaign, or helping to develop emergency plans for schools and houses of worship are all great ideas, if not extremely archaic and fundamental in nature.

These are actions that should not be receiving national airtime. Now, the argument as to whether the government should be spending money to educate private companies in contingency plans, or offering financial incentives for various actions is an entirely different, economic and Constitutional conversation – one that we can have, if you would like, but let’s stay on track in regards to the whole “firearms distraction.”

While there are some disturbing orders contained within this executive action, such as emphasizing medical doctor’s roles in likely creating a “no-buy” list based upon information gleaned from medical care, and aside from the strong urging for another gun and magazine ban, I am truly curious as to what else is happening in the background that we are being led away from....

Government Documents Reveal Vaccines to be Dangerous, Fraudulent

Posted on Jan 09, 2013 in Health, Food News, & Big Pharma

Kevin Hayden –

Source: Natural News

If you have children, you are more than likely already aware of the official U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) “Immunization Schedules,” which today recommend an astounding 29 vaccines be given between birth and six years of age, including yearly flu shots, as well as another five to 16 vaccines between ages seven and 18 ( But a recent investigative report compiled by Dr. Lucija Tomljenovic, Ph.D., uncovers more than 30 years of hidden government documents exposing these vaccine schedules as a complete hoax, not to mention the fraud of the vaccines themselves to provide any real protection against disease.

Through several Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, Dr. Tomljenovic was able to obtain transcripts of private meetings that were held between the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunization (JCVI), a so-called “independent expert advisory committee” that makes recommendations to the government about vaccine policy, and various British health ministers over the years. And after poring through this plethora of information, which had previously been veiled from public view, Dr....

Kevin Hayden –

Well, it’s that time of the year again; my birthday.  I’m not sure how I feel about it this year.  Things have gone quite well since the last one, I must admit.  While uncertainly and chaos rule the news, I’ve fought to keep myself centered and balanced throughout 2012 and am looking forward to a fruitful 2013!

30birthdaycakeSome of the year’s highlights were getting married, being able to travel quite a bit (mostly for work, but I’ll take what I can get!), and building several new friendships that I deeply cherish.  While experienced an all-time visitor record during 2012, traffic certainly slowed during the last quarter.  I plan to change that by getting back to writing more original content again, along with new articles about the Elysian Fields Project!

And for those of you wondering, my birthday is January 7th, and please, don’t send any gifts. I urge you not to. Whatever you do, do not send digital gift cards to ! Don’t do it!

2012 Statistics:

  • 2,588 Articles

Top Online Gun Retailer Suspends Sales of Firearms, “Effective Immediately” – Hayden’s Note Attached

Online retailer Cheaper Than Dirt!, one of the world’s largest sporting goods stores and a top online gun distributor, has suspended sales of firearms as of Tuesday.

Hayden’s Note:

Want my opinion? Of course you do, otherwise you wouldn’t be here. Ami’rite?

Here goes: Cheaper Than Dirt, being one of the largest online weapon sellers, gets wind of what’s coming down the pipe regarding how gun purchases are made and decides to get ahead of the curve by adjusting their e-commerce approach and sales protocols.  If, and this is a big IF – the White House and Powers That Be implement any sort of weapon ban, you can be sure that online sales, if still legal in any form, will radically change.  This represents a massive investment for companies such as Cheaper Than Dirt. Imagine redesigning your entire business’ way of making money, and you realize in order to minimize down time, they better get to work.

This also suggests to me, and I rarely talk about “Obama gun bans”, that it is hurtling down the proverbial pipe at warp speed and something concrete will be enacted sooner, rather than later.

Hayden’s Note on the Connecticut Shootings, Dead Babies, and US Foreign Policy

Posted on Dec 14, 2012 in Blog, Editorials, & Thoughts, Constitutional & Liberty Issues, Global & National News, Police, Military, & War, Political Issues

Kevin Hayden –

I was approached by a reader of the website last night who lamented on my lack of personal commentary lately.  He added that he had hoped to hear my opinions regarding the Presidential election and other current events, but that had completely ignored politics recently.  I had to agree; I have intentionally avoided the typical political commentary because, quite frankly, I’m moved beyond that for the most part.  For years, I waved my signs, took part in street actions to raise awareness, wrote articles, and took part in the election cycle as a state delegate.

These days, I’ve simply let go of the stranglehold that politics has on so many Americans. It no longer concerns me because I feel as though we are too far gone to ever get back on track, and so aside from the occasional piece on national events, I doubt you’ll see “in-depth” coverage on the Left vs. Right Paradigm; the stage show known as American politics.

In wake of today’s shooting events, I wanted to take a moment to share some opinions and perspectives on not only the direct topic, but the bigger picture, as well....

Pesticide Exposure Linked to Increased Prostrate Cancer Risk

Posted on Dec 02, 2012 in Health, Food News, & Big Pharma

Kevin Hayden –

Source: Natural Society

USC researchers have begun examining the link between pesticide exposure and the development of prostate cancer, with scientists documenting an increased prevalence of prostate cancer among older men exposed to certain pesticides. While this news is alarming on its own, it is only one of the many dangers associated with pesticide exposure.

Exploring the Cancer Connection

Prostate cancer effects one in six men at some point during their life and is, according to the National Cancer Institute, the third most common cancer killer among men. Although diet and genetics are risk factors, research has indicated that men who are exposed to chemicals including farmers, painters, and industrial workers may also be at an increased risk of developing this deadly cancer.

Hayden’s Note:

I think we can file this one under, “Duh!”  While it’s great that a renowned cancer research group is establishing this as mainstream science, I am pretty sure we all sort of knew that pesticides caused cancers of various types. So, why are you still eating food that was grown and sprayed with pesticide?

Private, For-Profit Corrections Corporation of America Used in Drug Sweep of Public School

Posted on Nov 29, 2012 in Alphabet Agencies & Operations, Constitutional & Liberty Issues, Police, Military, & War

Kevin Hayden –

While such “drug sweeps” have become a routine matter in many of the nation’s schools, along with the use of metal detectors and zero-tolerance policies, one feature of this raid was unusual.

According to Casa Grande Police Department (CGPD) Public Information Officer Thomas Anderson, four “law enforcement agencies” took part in the operation: CGPD (which served as the lead agency and operation coordinator), the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the Gila River Indian Community Police Department, and Corrections Corporation of America (CCA).

It is the involvement of CCA — the nation’s largest private, for-profit prison corporation — that causes this high school “drug sweep” to stand out as unusual; CCA is not, despite CGPD’s evident opinion to the contrary, a law enforcement agency.

Hayden’s Note:

Companies such as CCA are literally traded on Wall Street according to the number of prisoners they have in their “custody.” Think about that for a minute and let it really sink in.

“To invite for-profit prison guards to conduct law enforcement actions in a high school is perhaps the most direct expression of the ‘schools-to-prison pipeline’ I’ve ever seen,” said Caroline Isaacs, program director of the Tucson office of the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC), a Quaker social justice organization that advocates for criminal justice reform....

Former Head of ICE Sentenced to 6 Years for Child P0rn: Hayden’s Note

Posted on Nov 29, 2012 in Alphabet Agencies & Operations, Police, Military, & War, Political Issues

Kevin Hayden –

Source: Miami Herald

The law enforcement officer charged with busting child-porn cases was sentenced to 70 months in prison for transporting images of child porn on his computer.

The former Miami chief of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement was sentenced to nearly six years in prison and 20 years of supervised release on Friday after pleading guilty to Internet child-pornography charges.

In court on Friday, Anthony Mangione did not say why he started viewing child pornography, the Sun-Sentinel reported from West Palm Beach.

According to court documents, Mangione, 52, who led the fight to hunt down child-porn suspects, was caught sending pictures of children engaging in sex after AOL detected the images and contacted the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Investigators found a dozen computers and 16 cellphones when they searched Mangione’s Parkland home in April 2011. Soon after, Mangione retired from ICE after being sent on administrative leave.

Hayden’s Note:

The Chief investigator for child trafficking and related offenses is caught by AOL and didn’t understand how internet perpetrators are caught?? Not only should we question the integrity and personalities of our authorities, I think we need to re-examine their credentials for the job they are hired for!
