At Odds: Medical Marijuana and Private Prisons that Demand Maximum Capacity

With the surge of headlines debating the use of marijuana, the repeal of cannabis prohibition, and its medicinal qualities, one must wonder why some states are so hesitant in reforming their antiquated laws. If you’re still of the mindset that marijuana is a dangerous gateway drug that leads to acid trips and homicidal rampages, you really need to get with the times.

CNN’s chief medical correspondent, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, a highly respected neurosurgeon and frontrunner for Surgeon General of the United States, has recently, and very publicly stated that he was wrong about medical marijuana and is now a proponent of its use in medicine.

At the heart of this matter lies money, as with every political spectacle. On one hand, there is the potential tax money earned from the sale and regulation of marijuana, in a similar fashion as alcohol is currently handled. On the other hand, and often with much more political clout behind it (not to mention a small army of lobbyists), is the money earned in the private prison industry. These companies are traded on Wall Street based upon the number of prisoners inside, and push for strict drug laws that guarantee maximum profit....

If you are unfamiliar with the “Primal Diet” or “Paleo” meal idea, the best way I can describe it would be doing away with the refined carbs, the grains, the sugar and the like.  Raw foodism is very similar – a lifestyle that promotes the consumption of uncooked, unprocessed, and often organic foods as a large percentage of the diet.  The Primal food-style adds a lot of quality grass-fed and organic animal meats and healthy fats.

Ask yourself, “What would a caveman have access to?”  Certainly not modern farming techniques and a never-ending supply of GMO corn and wheat.  Certainly not mass quantities of bleached starches and monosodium glutamate.  The human body has been constantly evolving for millions of years and it is an incredible machine when fed fuel that it is geared for.  You don’t put Kool-Aid in your truck and expect it to run very well because it’s not designed for it.  Likewise, the human body is not designed nor adapted to operate efficiently to the Westernized surge in cereal grains, refined pastries, chemically preserved snacks, excess fiber, and lots of alcohol (also mostly grain)....

Coca-Cola & Pepsi Forced to Change Recipe to Avoid Cancer Warning Label, But What About Benzene Carcinogen?

Coca-Cola and Pepsi are changing the recipes for their soft drinks in order to avoid being forced by law to put a cancer warning on the label.

The caramel coloring in the drinks will contain lower levels of 4-methylimidazole, which has been added to the list of carcinogens in California law.

Is this considered a small win?!  While it’s great they are being forced to change their recipes, soft drinks still contain benzene, high fructose corn syrup, and a host of genetically modified sweeteners!

Benzene is a natural constituent of crude oil, and is one of the most basic petrochemicals.  Because it has a high octane number, it is an important component of gasoline. Its carcinogenicity has limited most non-industrial applications.  

In Coca-Cola and other soft drinks, Benzene is formed when the preservative Sodium Benzoate and Ascorbic Acid mix together (ascorbic acid is simply vitamin C, used as another preservative).

Benzene production in soft drinks and fruit drinks has been linked to the presence of ascorbic acid (vitamin C) and sodium benzoate ingredients in the products.

The human body is an amazing machine. One of the most important functions of this vessel is its ability to regulate its own acidity levels to a very fine degree.  Cells will only function normally within relatively narrow limits of pH.  The body regulates its pH by constantly adjusting physiological processes, such as kidney and lung function.

However, the foods you eat can play a role in increasing or decreasing body pH, and some foods can be more alkalizing than others. An acidic body is a magnet for sickness, disease, cancer, and aging.  Eating more alkaline foods helps shift your body’s pH and oxygenates your system, keeping your body healthy and functioning correctly, preventing cancer, among many other diseases.


pH, or “potential hydrogen,” is a measure of hydrogen ion concentration; a measure of the acidity or alkalinity of a solution.

Researchers at the Medical College of Georgia at Georgia Health Sciences University have published evidence that cardiovascular disease and diabetes risk is present in the blood fractions of adolescents who consume a lot of fructose, a scenario that worsens in the face of excess belly fat. Published in the Journal of Nutrition, scientists determined that high dietary fructose consumption results in lower levels of cardiovascular protectors such as HDL cholesterol and adiponectin, due in part to how the body metabolizes the fruit-based mega-sweetener at the cellular level.

Excess body fat accumulated around the mid-section, a rapidly growing problem in adolescents, compounds the problem when compared to those with less visceral fat deposits. The risk of artificial sweeteners is still very real.  Aspartame is used as a substitute sweetener in thousands of products. Most diet sodas, processed foods and candies contain this ‘alternative’ to sugar.

If you aren’t careful, you’ll easily run into it somewhere in your food.

Aspartame is marketed not by its real name, but through products like Equal and NutraSweet. This is because aspartame itself has a bad reputation as a dangerous excitotoxin. An excitotoxin is named for its ability to ‘excite’ the cells of the body into overproducing a particular chemical, thus burning them out prematurely. Aspartame, in particular, has been found to affect brain cells, by mimicking the response to sweetness and producing an artificial form of it.

One study actually found that 67% of female rats exposed to aspartame developed tumors roughly the size of golf balls or larger.

Environmental and consumer groups have condemned the US Food and Drug Administration’s move to renege on its long-held policy to regulate the use of human antibiotics in animal feed. Last week, the agency quietly announced it was withdrawing its plan to limit the use of antibiotics fed to healthy livestock intended for human consumption.

The groups also criticized the timing of the announcement, which was made during the holiday season and disclosed only in the federal register.

[Pollan] said there was “no question” that meat could be produced without human antibiotics, as the EU has already banned them.  Livestock consume about 80% of the antibiotics sold in the US.

The problem, said Pollan, boils down to a lack of political will in the face of powerful industry interests. “There’s a lot of corporate money in politics these days,” he said. “Here you’re going up against not just one powerful industry, but two. This administration has had enough trouble going after individual powerful industries. That they would prevail against two of them joined together was too much to hope for.”

1) Started in 1962 by UN, Imposed by WTO Sanctions

Codex Alimentarius was created in 1962 as a trade commission by the UN to control the international trade of food. Its initial intentions may have been altruistic but it has been taken over by corporate interests, most notably the pharmaceutical, pesticide, biotechnology and chemical industries.

Codex Alimentarius is backed up by the crippling trade sanctions of the World Trade Organization (WTO). Any non Codex-compliant nation would face huge economic punishment since they would automatically lose in any food-trade dispute with a Codex compliant country.

2) “Nutrients are Toxins”

Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC) has two committees which impact nutrition.

One of them, the “Codex Committee on Nutrition and Foods for Special Dietary Uses” (CCNFSDU), is chaired by Dr. Rolf Grossklaus, a physician who believes that nutrition has no role in health. This is the “top-guy” for Codex nutritional policy, and he has stated that “nutrition is not relevant to health”.

As unbelievable as it may sound, Dr. Grossklaus actually declared nutrients to be toxins in 1994 and instituted the use of toxicology (Risk Assessment) to prevent nutrients from having any impact on humans who take supplements!...

But gradually, several new research studies into coffee drinking have provided health benefits from drinking coffee. So now we have both positive and negative health effects from drinking coffee.

It’s not just the caffeine, but a synergistic combination of caffeine and an unnamed natural compound stimulate higher blood levels of GCSF (granulocyte colony stimulating factor), which protect the brain from dementia and degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.

This conclusion was published in The Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease, May/June 2011 from research by a team at the University of South Florida.

Coffee drinkers also showed lower rates of diabetes and strokes. An American Heart Association’s journal, Stroke, published findings from a long term Swedish study involving 35,000 women. Dr. Susanna Larsson led this study from The Division of Nutritional Epidemiology at the Karolinska Institute’s National Institute of Environmental Medicine.

The heaviest coffee consumption is commonly found in regions that are often overcast, drizzly, and dreary.
