Six New Orleans Police Officers Indicted for Danziger Bridge Shootings

Six more New Orleans police officers have been indicted by the federal government for their involvement in the killing of two men in the days after Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and in a broad effort to cover it up. The charges were announced yesterday by Attorney General Eric Holder and the Assistant AG Thomas Perez, along with other New Orleans officials. Several of them could face the death penalty if found guilty.



NOPD Drug Searches Handled Correctly, Louisiana Supreme Court Rules

*** This story involves your’s truly *** In two separate drug cases New Orleans police officers legally searched local men who later wound up facing felony charges at Criminal District Court, the Louisiana Supreme Court ruled this week. The pair of decisions overturn prior rulings by the 4th Circuit Court of Appeal that freed one man from a three-year prison term for crack cocaine possession and tried to quash a marijuana possession case. Both cases involved police searching people without first securing warrants.



Five New Orleans Police Officers Indicted in Post-Katrina Shooting, Burning

In announcing the indictments against Officer Warren Friday, U.S. Attorney Jim Letten also announced indictments against two officers accused of setting Mr. Glover’s body on fire and two other officers accused of obstructing the investigation into Mr. Glover’s death. One can’t read the indictments without feeling outrage over what was done to Mr. Glover.

(This is an older blog, reposted here) I finally said ‘enough is enough’ when I woke up one day and could truly see this department for what it really was and how most police officers turn a blind eye to the injustices occurring at their very own hands. It took a lot of questioning to see the truth of the matter, though. I had to break free from a mold that had been built around me, conditioning me to deny civil rights, forget integrity, and become so disillusioned by that ‘magical number [of arrests]‘, that I lost my own identity. Police Officers are nothing more than Corporate Revenue Collectors.



NOPD & Danziger 7: New Testimony Suggests Execution-Style Slaying with Assault Rifle

One officer has already entered a guilty plea, and yesterday, he spelled out what he said happened. Hunter, 33, testified that a New Orleans police sergeant fired an assault rifle at wounded civilians at close range after other officers stopped shooting and after it was clear that the police were not taking fire. He also says he witnessed another officer in a car fire a shotgun at a fleeing man’s back, killing him.



Former NOPD Officer’s Plea in Danziger 7 Case Spells Trouble for Other Officers

In admitting he conspired to obstruct justice, Lohman acknowledged helping concoct a cover story for police shootings that left two New Orleanians dead and four injured in the chaotic days after Hurricane Katrina. Among other things, the government says Lohman participated in a scheme to plant a gun at the scene, and helped rewrite police reports and witness statements to make a fabricated version of events seem more plausible.
