The SPLC, 3 Percenters & Broken Windows

Recently, there have been several articles referring to House Democrats feeling endangered and scared due to receiving threats over the Healthcare Reform bill. They have received telephone threats, been subject to vandalism and have now had a closed door session with the FBI and Capital Police in order to address their safety concerns.
I mirrored a news article earlier today regarding the Democrat’s having their office windows broken. Some of these have undoubtedly been from “3%’ers”, state militia members or other citizens who are simply fed up with the out of control tyranny that is occurring on the Hill.
I can always count on the Southern Poverty Law Center to provide comic relief, so I headed over to their site to see what “intelligence report” had been written about the incidents. Sure enough, at the top of the page, they had posted a story under their “HateWatch” newsletter heading, titled “Former Militiaman in Alabama Called for Breaking Dems’ Windows”
The article centers around a man named Mike Vanderboegh, who the SPLC claims is an extremist and a radical militia member. Here is a snippet from their article regarding his blog post,
Vanderboegh’s blog has been used to promote the Three Percenters, an antigovernment “Patriot” group that claims to represent 3% of U.S. gun owners. The name is inspired by the 3% of American colonists believed to have actively opposed England. Vanderboegh describes himself as “the alleged leader of a merry band of Three Percenters.” In the 1990s, he was associated with radical groups including the Alabama Constitutional Militia, the Tri-States Militia and the 1st Alabama Cavalry Regiment, Constitutional Militia.

“These windows are not far away from where you are reading this right now,” the blog explains. “In virtually every city and county in this land, there is a local headquarters of Pelosi’s party — the Democrat party. These headquarters invariably have windows. When the Sons of Liberty wanted to express their opposition to the actions of the King’s ministers, they would gather in front of the homes and offices of his tax-collectors and government officials in Boston or New York and break their windows. Glass was expensive. The King’s minions were often the most well-to-do. The Sons of Liberty hit them in their pocketbooks.
The original Sons of Liberty was a secret organization of American patriots prior to the Revolutionary War. British authorities and the Loyalists considered the Sons of Liberty seditious rebels. Patriots attacked the apparatus and symbols of British authority and power such as property of the gentry, customs officers, East India Company tea, and as the war approached, vocal supporters of the Crown.
While Mike Vanderboegh’s comments will not incite a modern version of 3%’ers to take action against the Government, it will provide plenty of incendiary ammo for the Southern Poverty Law Center, MSNBC and Homeland Security.
The Southern Poverty Law Center has labeled such noble organizations as Oath Keepers as being radical, anti-government extremist organizations, likening them to the KKK or Aryan Brotherhood. If you are unfamiliar with the Oath Keepers, they are a group of military soldiers, police officers, medical workers, Sheriffs, etc who have a simple mission statement – They refuse to break their sworn oath. They refuse to enter homes illegally or seize firearms from American citizens. They are reaffirming their duty and oath to protect the American people against enemies, both foreign and domestic. They state that they will refuse orders to blockade American cities, to allow foreign troops to govern citizens or enforce American law, and will do anything neccessary to preserve the rule of law.
These are not quackpots, wackos or fringe elements within our society. These are Police Chiefs, high ranking military officials and everything in between, all the way down to the lowly Marine Corp grunt. These people should be commended for taking their sworn oath seriously, unlike a growing portion of our armed services, police and federal workers.
The Southern Poverty Law Center is on a far-left agenda, hand in hand with federal intelligence agencies. They co-authored the Missouri Law Enforcement Intelligence Report awhile back that clearly stated that police should approach vehicles displaying Ron Paul 2008 Election stickers with caution. They called such educated patriots “potential domestic terrorists” and warned Missouri State Troopers to call for backup when engaging such individuals.
The best part about reading the SPLC’s articles are the comments. I thought I had read crazy comments on some websites, but this one takes the cake. I’ve included a few for your enjoyment and amusement with the bolded parts highlighted for hearty laughs -

Katja, the guy’s not just a crackpot, but a terrorist! He preached violence to followers he knows will act. It’s not a question of free speech. Didn’t Congress give us the “Patriot Act” for protection in part against just such Jacobins who commit such thuggery against others (genuine patriots!) who happen to hold a differing opinion?!? Who are guilty of what? – passing a law in a body where they held the duly elected majority, OMG!! Where is this pitiful moron from? – Oh, wait – the great equality-loving state of Alabama, thank you, Mitch. The plae where they imprisoned a governor BECAUSE he was a Democrat. This creature SHOULD BE arrested, held without bail, tried and imprisoned for terrorist, treasonous acts! Let’s see if the authorities have the cojones to move against a radical-criminal who happens to be RIGHT-of-center! By the way….i wonder if HIS house has, um,…windows?

I fully believe Mike Vanderboegh is a terrorist. He should be put as the number one public enemy. People like him are the reasons abortions need to stay legal-imagine how wonderful things would be if people like him, and he, himself had been aborted!

Gregory echoed my initial thought when reading this post: Kristallnacht. Not as focused, not as organized, but the intent seems to be the same: to terrorize a specific population.
Is it just me, or do you see the extreme hypocrisy in these comments left by faithful, loyal SPLC supporters? They espouse hate for so called “terrorists” but suggest he should have his Constitutional rights stripped, that we as Americans should be thankful for Congress blessing us with the Patriot Act, that Vanderboegh should have been aborted, or even likening the Sons of Liberty’s actions against the oppressive British to the Nazi operation “Kristallnacht” (where the Nazis broke windows of Jewish businesses to intimidate them).
These loyalists consider civil disobedience to be terrorist activity and are calling for someone to be held for treason over simple damage or vandalism!? Talk about extremists…

Wow. You said it! Those comments are extremely hypocritical…. and yet the people who vow to uphold their oaths are the extremists??!! I beg to differ!
Never thought I’d see the day when upholding one’s oath to uphold and defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic would be considered extremist or “treasonous”. What is almost unbelievable is that a nation that owes it’s very existance to rebellion and resisting tyranny fears that very thing. Of course one of our founders said that when the government fears the people there is liberty but when the people fear the government there is tyranny. Suppose that’s why both the Feds and many States are passing more and more restrictive gun control laws..the last thing a would-be tyrant wants is for citizens to be armed because then they can fight back. I think the most important part of the Constitution is the 2nd Amendment because without the 2nd Amendment then the other 9 Amendments in the Bill of Rights are meaningless as the government could take away all our other rights just as easily. To all those who say that the things the Oath Keeprs and 3 percenters are concerned about could never happen here..wonder if the Jews in Germany before Hitler’s rise to power ever imagined that the Holocaust would happen there. Never again should be the attitude of anyone because the first time it was the Jews..the next time it could be us..Americans.
