Valentine’s Day 101

2010. It’s already here.  And with the start of the new year, comes Valentine’s Day.  If you’re like me, you might be feeling a bit hot under the collar.  Even though I have 30+ days to find the perfect gift, I somehow screw it up each year.  One of the most memorable Valentine’s I can remember was one of the first dates I had with my girlfriend.  I dragged my friend along with me as it was going to be a casual night at the bars and just getting to know each other.  When we arrived, she had brought one of her friends, as well.

As we talked and laughed, I noticed our friends were hitting it off rather well (and to our surprise!).  By the end of the week, they were a couple, too.  I’m happy to say that they are getting married very soon and I will always remember the night that started it all for my girlfriend and I AND our friends.

With Valentine’s Day approaching, some guys – or girls! – might be worried about how they might pay for that special night.  Some hopeless romantics might decide to create their own valentine’s gifts; maybe a card or a poem.  They might design and build something for their beloved.  Others like to go all out and book an indulgent weekend at a luxury hotel, complete with massages and room service!  Maybe your special girl (or guy!) likes jewelry?  Whichever way you decide, it might take a bit of money and creativity.  And as we all know, the current economic climate is not well suited for spending or even saving a large amount of hard earned cash.  One solution to this is to take a very small loan out to pay for it.

As you all know (if you follow the site), I’m not a fan of big banks.  At all.  So in order to finance this endeavor, I would suggest looking towards a cash advance place.  These offer very short term ‘paycheck’ loans that you can easily pay back within a month or two while staying away from the big bankers.  This also allows you to create a very memorable valentine’s day without breaking the bank or spending your entire week’s paycheck on it!

No matter what you ultimately decide, remember that Valentine’s Day is about showing someone how much you care about them.  You needn’t get wrapped up in the commercialization of the day – but use it to your advantage.  Give your special someone a memory that will last a lifetime.
