There is a series of 4 or 5 books called the Foxfire 1, Foxfire 2, etc. These books try to put into writing a lot of the lost trades from 1700-1900′s. Everything from log homes to milking goats, blacksmithing, slaughtering animals, animal husbandry, cast iron cookery. Making recipes with primitive methods. Making cloth, weaving. Sewing, making repairs to things. wood craving of utensils. (IT’s in there!) An amazing resource if an EMP comes along and resets civilizations clocks back to the 1800′s.
do you have a link or any info on how to get the foxfire series ? i have heard they are excellent.
The Foxfire series is a classic and a mainstay on most book shelves. I’m not sure of where to find a digital copy for download, but I haven’t looked around much for them. I’ll see what I can do. If they are available for distribution, I’ll certainly get them listed.
If you’re wanting a digital version, have you checked Amazon for a Kindle or e-book version? They are typically only $2 or $3.

I purchased a few of the volume’s when all those Border’s bookstores closed down so you can still find print versions out there. You could also try your library or inter-library loan plan if your towns doesn’t have it.
I am a subscriber to Backwoods Home magazine. If I recall correctly, you can order the Foxfire series from their “bookshelf.” Check out the “bookshelf” in the back pages of an issue at a local bookstore or go to http://www.backwoodshome.com. BTW, I think there are more like 12 or 14 books in the series.
I tried to download some of these manuals and while they seem to have downloaded, I cannot open them. Are they fixed so they cannot be downloaded, only printed? Thx!
Ehh, I’m not sure what to tell you. Are you sure you’re trying to open them with the proper program? I’ve had about 83,000 downloads and this is the first I’m hearing of any issues. Without additional info, I can’t troubleshoot what the problem is!
But, to answer your question, you should be able to download, save, print, whatever. They are not protected files.

If you are having trouble downloading, it is most likely that your browser is blocking either javascript or re-directed pages. They sometimes do this as a internet safety measure. If you change those settings, you should have no further problems. The download links are valid. After changing those settings temporarily I was able to download with out problems.
